Ruby C. Murray

1926 - 2023

Ruby C. Murray, 96, a loving, spirited and passionate woman, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

Born on Saturday, June 19, 1926, in Hazard, Ruby was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who touched the lives of many.

As the oldest daughter of 15 children, Ruby played a significant role in her family's life.

Ruby's faith played a significant part in her life, and she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She also had been a member of Vine Grove Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life and she enjoyed attending church and participating in the various ministries when she was able. Ruby's faith provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life and she was a shining example of God's love to those around her.

Known for her vivacious spirit, Ruby loved to dance. Her energy and enthusiasm were contagious and she brought joy and laughter to all those around her. Ruby's passion for life was evident in everything she did and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her love for dancing, she had a talent for sewing, crocheting, crafting and refurbishing items. She spent countless hours creating beautiful and intricate pieces for her family and friends and her creativity brought warmth and comfort to many homes. Ruby was the former owner of Parido Coin Laundry in Vine Grove, a business she ran with great care and commitment. She also was an avid bird watcher and took great pleasure in observing the beauty of nature and the simple joys of life.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Murray Higdon; her parents, Dewey and Ada Caudill; and 11 siblings.

Ruby is survived by her four sons, David Murray (Ronda), Frank Murray (Heather), Walter Murray (Brenda) and Dewey Murray (Triana); 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Verma Williams, John David Caudill, Henry "Hank" Caudill and Ada Chandler; and a host of extended family and friends. Her love and devotion to her family were unwavering and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The funeral for Mrs. Murray is at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28, in the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove with Pastor Herb Williams officiating. Burial follows in Vine Grove Cemetery.

Ruby's Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
