W.D. Burden Obituary

W.D. Burden, 84, of Louisville, formerly of Hodgenville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at the Altenheim in Louisville.

He was a member of Highland Baptist Church and a retired Commonwealth of Kentucky social worker and special education teacher in LaRue, Hardin and Breckinridge counties. He was the former owner of Geneva's Florist in Hodgenville. He graduated with a bachelors degree from Campbellsville University and masters degree from Western Kentucky University.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 51 years, Mae Carter Burden; his parents, William F. Burden Jr. and Emelyn Westerfield Burden; and his infant sister, Beverly Burden.

Survivors include his four children, Andy (Susanna) Burden of London, England, Troy Burden (Mike Mayo) of Louisville, Jayme (Kristi) Burden of Elizabethtown and Tami Burden of Ashland; five grandsons, Dylan (Jazmin) Burden of Hodgenville, Tyler (Tessa) Burden of Elizabethtown, Christopher Burden Mayo of Louisville and Ken Burden and Dan Burden, both of London, England. He also is survived by his brother, Jerry (Lynn) of Pensacola, Florida; and a sister-in-law, Donna (Barney) Shuffett of Greensburg.

The funeral is at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Highland Baptist Church of Louisville, 1101 Cherokee Road, Louisville, with the Rev. Mary Alice Birdwhistle officiating. Private burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery in Hodgenville.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Building Love Campaign of Highland Baptist Church or Network For Hope, 10301 Linn Station Road, Louisville KY 40223.
