Marvin Young

Rev. Marvin Young, age 88, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Ducktown, Tennessee.
Born on March 7, 1937, in Ellijay, Georgia, he was the son of the late Grady and Jesse Ponder Young.
He was a graduate of Gilmer County High School.
Rev. Young devoted 35 years of service to the Georgia Department of Transportation, retiring as an engineer. He also worked for the Fannin County Road Department and Rice Fence Company.
In addition to his professional career, Rev. Young faithfully served the Lord as an ordained Baptist minister for 50 years. During that time, he pastored several churches in Fannin and Gilmer Counties, including Big Creek Baptist Church, Flat Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Salem Baptist Church, Whitestone Baptist Church, and New Canaan Baptist Church.
Above all, Rev. Young lived a life of service to the Lord and loved all of his family dearly.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Russell Thomas Young; and siblings, Harlow Young, Marion Young, Garvin (Peewee) Young, Cleo McDaniel, Marge Vick, and Geneva Weaver.
Rev. Young is survived by his wife, Debra Young; children, Paul Duane Young (Jonnie), Mark Young (Angie), and Marcee Young; daughter-in-law, Belinda Young; grandchildren, Christopher Michael Young, Jonathan Paul Young (Katie), Andrew Stephen Young, Caleb Joshua Young, Angelina Rose Underwood (Jade), Amy Justine Young, and Elisha Joseph Young (Kaitlin); great-grandchildren, Kristina Young, Russell Young, Jensen Young, Judah Paul Young, Benjamin Young, and Maggie Young; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. Paul Richards, the Rev. James Thompson, Mr. David Franklin, and Mr. Clinton Patterson officiating. Music was provided by Amy Young and Katie Young.
Interment followed in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Christopher Michael Young, Jonathan Paul Young, Andrew Stephen Young, Caleb Joshua Young, Elisha Joseph Young, and Russell Young. Viewing for Rev. Young was at noon Thursday, January 15, 2026, from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge, Georgia, and the family visited with friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Rev. Young may be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 156 Mt. Pisgah Drive, Ellijay, Georgia, 30540.
