Nona Thomason

Nona Ruth Thomason of Morganton passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 21, 2025 at the home of her daughter surrounded by loving family members.
Born April 16, 1932, Ruth was the daughter of Hugh and Gladys Torbett of Antlers, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Ervin Thomason, and is survived by daughters Sharon Jones, Penny Ruby, Carol Jones, sons
Adrian Thomason and David Thomason.
Ruth married Ervin October 4, 1950 and partnered with her husband who was a decorated member of the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1960. Upon discharge from the military, Ervin and Ruth moved to Florida to work in the Apollo Space Program in Cape Canaveral, Florida. In 1972, she and Ervin moved their family to Atlanta, Georgia, for Ervin to begin a career as a biomedical technician for the Hewlett-Packard Company, while Ruth cared for the family.
Ervin and Ruth retired in 1995 and moved to Morganton to begin working with churches, orphanages, and Bible schools all over the world to build facilities and remodel existing structures to better serve the needs of the institutions. While these experiences provided Ruth with great joy, she would be quick to say that her proudest achievements were her children, her nine grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren who she was blessed to see become followers of her Savior!
She was a loving grandmother to April Brown, Suzanne Ruby, Joshua Ruby, Phillip Jones, Kyle Jones, Stephanie Jones,Kelly Jones, Laura Thomason and Jude Thomason.Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15)
Services will held September 28, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at New Life Family Church, 167 Wesley Mountain Drive, Blairsville, Georgia. Internment will be at 3 p.m. September 29, 2025 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
