Georgie Touchstone Obituary

Georgie Touchstone

Funeral services for Mrs. H. D. "Georgie" Touchstone, 84, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Mabry officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Touchstone passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, following a brief illness. Considered an angel by all who knew her, she is now with Heaven's other angels, and we will miss her very much.

Georgie was born and grew up in Baton Rouge. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and from LSU. After graduation, she married H.D. "Dick" Touchstone and moved to Monroe. She was a faithful and devoted wife for 54 years. She remained a source of strength and guidance to her family through the years. This is evident in the love each of them felt for their "Gran." Her quiet manner and charming personality made her many lasting friendships.

Dick and she were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she served as Ruling Elder, Sunday School teacher, and missionary society leader. She met these and all her activities with much enthusiasm. Along with her church life, she was also active in many varied activities. She was an active alum in Delta Delta Delta, a Monroe Junior League member and sustainer, and an avid tennis player. In all of these, she made lifelong friends. Her love of flowers was evident in the beautiful arrangements she made for her church and also for the important events in the lives of her friends and their families. She was a past president and honorary life member of the Monroe Garden Club, the Monroe Garden Study League, and past president of the Town and Country Garden Club. Many young women have benefitted from the mentoring she gave to them in these organizations.

Georgie was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Sadie Burden of Baton Rouge; her husband, H.D. Touchstone; and her brother, Colonel Dan Burden, Jr.

Survivors include her children, H.D. "Dickie" Touchstone of Baton Rouge, Bill Touchstone, and Nancy and her husband Glenn Guimbellot of Monroe; her grandchildren, Georgie Brown and her husband Matthew, and Daniel, Dixon, and Sarah Jane Sartor; her sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Harry Barton; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Burden.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Sartor, Dixon Sartor, Junot Dixon, Steve Allen, Dixon Doege, Harry Barton, Mac Oliver, and Touch Lamb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dixon Abell, Nelson Abell, Herbert Lee Breard, and Ernest Breard.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM in the church fellowship hall.

Any planed memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
