Jerry Keever Obituary

Jerry W. Keever

A private church service was held for Jerry W. Keever on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Grace Church in Shreveport, Louisiana with Pastor Steve Hill officiating.

Mr. Keever was born on November 13, 1935 in Creston, Iowa and went to be with his Lord on March 31, 2014.

He was one of the founding members of Podnuh's Barbeque which began in Monroe, Louisiana. With Jerry as a contributing partner, Podnuh's grew from its first location on Louisville Avenue to over fourteen restaurants located in Monroe, Shreveport/Bossier and Baton Rouge. He had a passion for the restaurant industry and it showed through as you very seldom walked in to one of the locations that you did not see his smiling face welcoming you. If you didn't know him from Podnuh's Barbeque, you may remember him from his first hamburger joint, Toto's, where he coined the term "JDF"-(Jumbo Drink and Fries). This is where his love for the restaurant business began and continued until his retirement.

He is survived by his life companion of 15 years, Sarah Jane Ball; two daughters, Krista Keever Rhymes and husband Randy, and Ashley Ann Keever; one grandson, Harrison Keever Rhymes; special nephew Michael Keever and wife Kathy; and beloved pet, Miss Kitty.

This kind, honest, gentle, and caring man devoted his life to family, friends and church very unselfishly. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Jerry was a strong-willed and courageous man, yet possessed a unique quality of extreme tenderness and empathy for others. He lived his life without judgment or criticism of others and through his nonjudgmental ways inspired you to be a better person and desire to be more like him. His unique sense of humor and fun-loving personality will be missed the most among those who loved him. He loved life and fulfilled it through all his many travels and family trips.

Memorials may be made to Grace Church, 9205 Simmons Place, Shreveport, Louisiana 71118.
