Walter Griswell Obituary
Born in Grove Park, Georgia, Fulton County, on February 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Rufus and Louise Owen Griswell. Walt was Postmaster for the United States Postal Service and retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and served as Music Director for many years with University Baptist, Clairmont Baptist, and North Peachtree Baptist Church. The loves of his life were his family, singing, and traveling, as well as the many friends he met throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Lavonia Lee Bishop Griswell; son, Alan Griswell; and son-in-law, Rodney Holden.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lena Marlow Griswell; son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Jan Griswell, of Toccoa; daughters and son-in-law, Gale and David Little, of Parrish, Florida, Margaret Holden, of Buford, Georgia; grandchildren, Andrea and Lee Chitwood, Staci and Mark Dean, Joy Guzman, Jason and Tiffany Holden, Christopher and Ashley Little; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and McEntire Funeral Home with Mr. Guy Griswell officiating. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Atlanta with Rev. Lee Chitwood officiating at the graveside.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the service hour on Friday, February 28, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorial donations be made to Gideons International, c/o Habersham South Camp, P.O. Box 195, Baldwin, GA 30511; Samaritan's Purse, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC. 28201-0001; or to Level Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 416, Cornelia, GA. 30531.
