Dorothy Chase Obituary

Chase, Dorothy Evelyn

Dorothy Evelyn Chase passed November 21, 2016 on her 90th birthday.

She was born November 21, 1926 in Scottsbluff, NE to Carl and Catherine Meyer. Her German grandparents and parents emigrated from Russia to this small farming community in Western Nebraska.

She married her husband Gene in 1946, and by 1953 they had four daughters. On August 15, 2016, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

The family moved to Tulsa in 1958 where they became involved with the sport aviation community. Dorothy loved being a homemaker and caring for her husband and their daughters. She excelled at cooking and baking, specializing in German family favorites.

In 1973, Dorothy and Gene relocated to Wisconsin where they spent the next 38 years. Initially Dorothy worked at EAA with Gene, followed by many years of volunteering at EAA Annual Fly-In Convention now known as AirVenture. She and Gene made many life-long friends during their time in Oshkosh. Dorothy loved playing bridge with her close friends. She was a lifetime member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, attending annual national conventions to honor her heritage.

In 2011, they returned to Tulsa to be closer to family. During their five years at University Village, Dorothy enjoyed making new friends, reading and playing bridge. However, her most rewarding moments were spent being Gene's primary caregiver.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Gene; daughters Cathy Williams and Linda Fiddler (Bill) of Tulsa; daughter Susan Kay of Mt. Shasta, CA; son-in-law Scotty Allan of La Porte, TX; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren living in TX, NY and Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald, her daughter Peggy Allan, and her son-in-law Tom Williams.

A memorial service was held in Tulsa on Nov. 25, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, 1304 N. Kenosha Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74106.

Dorothy's husband, Gene, taught me everything I needed to know about flying and aviation. Dorothy taught me everything I needed to know about living and love. Heaven certainly has a lot more laughter in it now!

We are so sorry to hear of Dorothy leaving us, but to be in a better place. Norm and I loved both Gene and Dorothy. Gene worked side by side with Norm for years. What beautiful people. Dorothy was always gracious to her guests and served the best food. She always had that beautiful smile. We will miss you greatly Dorothy. Our condolences to Gene and the daughters left behind. You were always so good to your parents.

We were so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. She was a great friend whose company we often enjoyed in Oshkosh. In addition to being good at bridge, Dorothy was an extremely worthy dominoes opponent. We spent many a Friday evening with Mexican Train, pie and ice cream, and lots of laughter. We still chatted by phone every few weeks and we will miss her a lot.
Our sincere condolences to Gene, Kathy, Linda, Susan and all the rest of her loving family
