Janet Zarter Obituary

Zarter, Janet Marie

Janet Marie Zarter, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, and is now resting in peace. Janet was born on December 18, 1939, to George and Mary Hohenwalter of Oshkosh. Jan attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Oshkosh High School. Jan devoted her life to serving others. Whether it was during her years at Red's Pizza, the love and care she afforded to her family, or kindness to a stranger, Jan welcomed everyone into her life with open arms and a loving smile.

She is survived by two sons, Gary and Paul, five grandchildren, Rachel, Zack, Stormy (Ryan Schatzke), Tieranny, and Amanda, three great-grandchildren, Damien, Rianna, and Jasmine, brother, Richard (Jane) Hohenwalter, sister Janie (Al) McCormick, brother-in-law, Ron (Penny) Zarter, niece, Paula (Robert) Wilson, nephew, Justin Wilson, many nieces and nephews, and the many kids and teenagers that knew her as a second mom or grandma growing up.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kenneth Zarter, son, Steven, great-grandson, Talon, sister, Carol (Carl) Schmidt, brothers, James and George Hohenwalter.

The family would like to acknowledge Stevie, Pam, and the group at Red's Pizza for the many years of joy, love, and laughter they gave to "Candy Jan". Also, a thank you for all the laughter, memories, golf, and strawberry picking to the wonderful friends and family made up at Little Silver Lake.

The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Mercy Medical Center for their role in making Jan's final days comfortable.

Janet will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery in the family plot. Jan's final wishes were for her family and friends to remember the good times they had with her while she was here rather than a formal service to say goodbye. Those who knew Jan knew her love for animals, including her guinea pig Mocha, and her "granddogs", Jaxs and Ella Jean, and the joy they brought to her life. To honor her final wishes the family prefers that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society on Jan's behalf for anyone who chooses to honor her in that manner.

Jan was an extremely loving person with a fantastic smile. It did not matter if she was serving patrons of Red's, catering a wedding, or just spending time with her family; the room was always filled with her smile, laugh and generosity. Our sincere condolences are extended to her family.

Jan you were always our favorite waitress at Red's since the 70's. We always came in after bar hopping and ordered the deluxe with sauerkraut. You would joke and laugh with us and we always had a great time with you. I know Red's is going to miss you very much and I know it won't be the same without you there. Thanks for all the memories and fun. I know you will be in Heaven serving up the whole place with a smile. The angels are going to love you. God be with your family now as ever and look for me at the pearly gates when it's my turn to enter. I hope you will greet me with my favorite pizza. Hugs.

My aunt was an awesome lady always giving to anyone who ever they were. I thank her every day for the love she always gave me and my family. The yellow roses from Texas on her birthday she enjoyed so much always reminded her how much I loved her. Always and forever.
