Laura Calamus Obituary
Laura J. (Hoppa) Calamus, 92, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on October 16th, 2016 at 7:12 a.m. Laura was born to Joseph and Margaret (Clark) Hoppa in Berlin, Wisconsin on February 17th, 1924. She was the 2nd of 10 children.
Laura was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was known for her strength and courageous fight. Her greatest pride was her grandchildren.
Laura was a home maker and member of Saint Bartholomew Parish in Chicago. She is survived by three children Donald Kasa, Laura Dellaca, Deborah Calamus; stepsons, James Calamus, and Louis (Joan) Calamus; grandchildren Brian Russell, Jason (Carolyn) Russell, Michael (Jenny) Dellaca, Krystin Dellaca, Dayna Martino Calamus and Zachary Calamus; Great Grandchildren Gabriel Dellaca, Alexia Dellaca, Anthony Dellaca, Carter Russell, Caitlin Russell and Peyton Russell. Two sisters Mike (Harold) Featherston, Margaret Jensen, and one brother Joseph Hoppa, she is further survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George Calamus; daughter Frances Russell; brothers Lawrence Hoppa and Philip Hoppa; sisters Josephine Kapp, Dorothy Taborahak, Mary Paeth and Genevieve Gaatz.
Laura is a veteran of WWII and was stationed in Boca Raton Florida. She served her country with distinction driving two ton trucks, preparing and maintaining the parachutes for the air force as well as maintaining the oxygen tanks for use. She was proud of her service and loved her country.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery of Berlin on Saturday October 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Phillip Krogman officiating.
