Raymond Manthey Obituary

Raymond L. Manthey, age 94, of Oshkosh, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Lake Shore Manor. Born on December 20, 1916 in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Christian and Bertha (Witte) Manthey, Ray married Anna C. Moss on January 2, 1937 in Wyandotte, Michigan. Anna preceded Ray in death on November 10, 2006.

An employee of Rockwell International for 41 years, Ray retired in 1978 as a Material Manager. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. Ray was a member of Oshkosh Rotary Club (joining in 1966), Ridgeway Country Club of Neenah, Mascoutin Country Club of Berlin, Menasha Elks Dance Club, National Management Association, bowling and golf leagues, and was inducted into the Wyandotte Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He was an active athlete who enjoyed baseball, basketball (playing and coaching), and golf. Ray enjoyed the fact that he shot a 79 at the age of 79.

Left to mourn Ray's passing are three children, Robert Manthey of Wyandotte, Michigan, Jane Ellen Ihrke of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Howard Manthey of Oshkosh; five grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Manthey, Kent (Denise) Manthey, Steven Ihrke, Sheri Ihrke, and Meredith Lea Seader; five great-grandchildren, Troy, Ella, Maddox, Kirstyn, and Leala; and a sister, Virginia (Joe) Mondon of Lincoln Park, Michigan. Preceding Ray in death is his wife, parents, a daughter-in-law, Madeline Martin, a son-in-law, Robert Ihrke, and a grandson, Scott Ihrke.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Lake View Memorial Park Chapel with Reverend Andi Wolf officiating. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Memorials in Ray's memory to Emmanuel United Church of Christ Building Fund would be appreciated. A sincere thank you to the staff and caregivers of Lake Shore Manor and Generations Hospice of Fond du Lac for the kindness and gentle care given to Ray during his illness.
