Shirley M. Gneiser

Shirley Margaret Gneiser, age 89, of Berlin, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Patriot Place in Berlin following a long battle with cancer.

She was born November 26, 1924, in WI, the daughter of Theodore and Esther Marshner Stapel. On November 25, 1948, she was married to Alvin Gneiser. She was a 1942 graduate of Berlin High School and graduated from Green Lake County Normal. She continued her education through UW-Oshkosh. Shirley taught elementary education in the Berlin School District for many years, retiring in 1987. She taught in a one room school (Woodlawn), and continued teaching in Washington, Lincoln and Clay Lamberton Schools.

She was a member of Grace English Lutheran Church, past Sunday School Teacher, belonged to Homemakers, and was a past 4-H leader.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Alvin; two daughters, Cindy Kemnitz (James Packard), and Nancy (Bill) Clewien ; five grandchildren, Naomi (Kevin) Resop, Jeremy Kemnitz, Allie (Adam) Henke, Ben Clewien, and Courtney Clewien; two great-grandchildren, Logan & Jori Resop; sister-in-law, Louise Schmuhl; brother-in-law, Neil (Nancy) Gneiser; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Vennecia and June; sister-in-law, Sally; brothers-in-law, John, Elwin, & Dean.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace English Lutheran Church, the Rev. Scott T. Piper officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin. Friends and relatives may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Barbola Funeral Chapel and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Shirley wa mt frist grade teacher at Washington school. I may have been in one of her firsy classes. Thru the years we visited many times. I so enjoyed her company she was so sweet and Kind. I believe I may have sold them one of their last cars when I worked at Westside garage. Mymemories will remain bright and so may years ' Love to all of you
