Steven Berger Obituary

Berger, Steven George

Steven George Berger, 75, of Pine River, WI passed away peacefully and entered eternal life in the loving care of his family on Monday April 29, 2013. It was his choice to die at home. He found his peace from his Savior.

He was born May 9th, 1937 in Oshkosh, the son of Frank and Dorothy Ann (nee Schubert) Berger. He married Nancy C. Hinn on June 7, 1958 at the old Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Jackson Dr. in Oshkosh.

Steve was employed at Kimberly Clark of Neenah for 37 years. He lived most of his years in Oshkosh, until shortly after his retirement, when they moved to Pine River, WI. That was a little bit of heaven on earth to him. He was an avid sportsman. He loved to deer hunt, as well as fishing for walleye and perch. His son, Steve, would rig up a way to get dad in the boat when his legs started to give him trouble. After his retirement he bought land in Waushara, WI, about three miles from his home. He spent a lot of time there with his sons and grandson, Jacob. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church for 50 years.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Nancy; three sons, a son-in-law, and seven grandchildren, Steven R. (Jerilyn) Berger & daughters, Bridget and Anna, Michael J. (Kerry) Berger & daughter, Gabrielle and son, Joshua, Andrew J. Berger & daughter, Sophia, son-in-law, Michael Grunske & sons, Jacob and Adam; brothers, Frank (Deb) Berger, Bruce (Pat "Peach") Berger, and Jim (Kris) Berger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Karen) Hinn, Richard (Robin) Hinn, and Jane Hinn; and foster sister, Delores Ratzburg. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly L. Grunske; parents, Frank and Dorothy Berger; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Letha Hinn; brother, Jack Berger; nephews, Brucie Berger, John Berger, and Dan Berger; niece, Robin Soles; brother-in-law, Gary Hinn; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Roger) LaMore.

A funeral service for Steven will be held Friday May 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Revs. Jeff Berg and Nathan Ericson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank Pastors Berg and Ericson for all their spiritual guidance for Steve and us, also Chaplain Jamie of Mercy Medical Center, the office of Cardiology at MMC, Dr.'s Brescia, Ringwala and Rieser, nurses, Kerry, Inez, La Donna and the rest of the office for their tender loving care. What a fun, joyful man Steve was. I think of him every year when the weather warms up and it's time to switch to vodka and tonics his "summer drink". I had never heard of "summer drinks" before so it always makes me chuckle. I'll miss him.
