William Alm Obituary

William D. Alm

Oshkosh - William D. Alm, age 97, a life-long resident of Oshkosh, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Waterford. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 8, 1923. In 1951, William was united in marriage to the late Margaret Louise Norris in New Orleans. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2012.

William "Bill" Alm served in WWII as an Aircraft Identification Specialist, serving in the European theatre. Bill graduated Tulane University. Upon graduation Bill became a successful "detail man," a pharma company representative and met Margaret, a Pharmacist in New Orleans. After a brief period in Margaret's hometown of New Orleans, they spent most of their 61-year marriage in Oshkosh. Bill was a securities broker at his family company, Alm & Co.

Bill loved golf, bridge, the Green Bay packers, and fishing in addition to reading history books and novels. Bill and Margaret were active golf enthusiasts, and supporters of many Oshkosh initiatives, ranging from the EAA to the local animal shelter. Recently, while reflecting upon his vast experiences, Bill shared his appreciation for opportunities to travel, but that his life-long residency in his beloved Oshkosh was a cherished gift, the best place for anyone to live a rich life.

William is survived by two nephews, Mark and Norris Scott; two nieces, Megan Scott and Karen Folmer; grandnieces and grandnephews: Lauren and Erin Scott, Scott Borgstedt, Charles, and Thomas Scott.

Private family graveside services will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oshkosh Public Library.
