Mr. Spry was an inspiring educator. He taught us a love for music. I remember how we always encouraged us to give our all at performances and challenged us to play beyond our level. We did! It was such an amazing feeling of accomplishment when we played a challenging piece. I remember having some of the music we played memorized! It was a great experience being apart of his ensemble. Great time in my life and many wonderful memories and trips.

My deep appreciation of music is a direct result of having Mr. Spry as my teacher. He was my band teacher from fifth grade until I graduated high school in 1982. I have thought of him often throughout the years and was sad to hear of his passing. He was the most passionate and dedicated teacher. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Our deepest sympathy to Liz and family. It has been years since we've crossed paths with Gerry and you, and feel badly we did not know about his illness. Between MSU connections (Gerry and Bill) and MSBOA connections (both of us) and the times Gerry would appear as a tympanist when needed for some concert, production or other(!), to Northbrook Nursery School days when Heather and our son, Ron, were in the same class, and to the kind help Gerry gave him when Ron did his student teaching in Waterford, we have many good memories. May God bless and comfort you.
