Reverend Robert E. Tewes

TEWES, REVEREND ROBERT E., age 74; of Mancelona; passed away April 30, 2011. Bob was born on June 29, 1936 in Palmer Kansas, the son of Erich and Mabel Tewes. He was a devoted husband of Joan E. (nee Merriman); loving father of Debra Hoerres of Berkley, MI., Robert E. (Patricia) Tewes, Jr. of Albert Lea, MN., Ann (Randolph) Kummler of Commerce Township, MI., and Scott (Kelli) Tewes of Waterford, MI; dearest grandfather of Katrina, Zachariah, and David Gerth; Ryan and Krista Kummler; Ashley, Camille, Emma, Lauren and Haley Tewes; also great grandfather of Shakyra Maddix; dear brother of Harvey (Helen) Tewes, Irene (Kenneth) Duitsman, Wilbur (June) Tewes, and Larry (Myrna) Tewes. Former spouse of Mary Sandler, of Albert Lea, MN. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan A. Gerth, Jr. Pastor Bob Tewes retired after more than 40 years as a Lutheran Minister. He also served as Michigan State Police Chaplain for over 5 years. His former parishes included Trinity Lutheran in Rocksprings, Wyoming; Immanuel Lutheran in Lincoln, Nebraska; Trinity Lutheran in Des Moines, Iowa. His Michigan parishes included St. Paul Lutheran in Evart, MI; Peace Lutheran in Southfield, MI; and Grace Lutheran in Pontiac, MI. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home, 5391 Highland Road, Waterford Township, MI with Rev Donald Ritter officiating. Interment will follow at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, PO Box 469, Mancelona, MI, 49659.
