Al Lamb Obituary

Al Delano Lamb

September 26, 1932 - December 24, 2024

Olympia, Washington - Al Lamb went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2024, at the age of 92. Al was born on September 26, 1932, to Dorwin and Florence Lamb in St. Paul, Minnesota. Al grew up in Cannonball, North Dakota during the Great Depression before moving to Tacoma, Washington and graduating from Stadium High School in 1951. It was at Stadium where he met his wife of 64 years, Mary. They would both attend Washington State University, where Al was a member of the ROTC and graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in 1955. They were married on August 26, 1955, and Al was deployed to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey shortly thereafter. Al served the United States Army at both Fort Monmouth and Fort Gordon, Georgia, before he and Mary settled in Olympia in 1958. Al continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and the National Guard until 1968, when he was honorably discharged, reaching the rank of Captain.

Al and Mary raised three children in the house that Al built himself in 1967. While working for the State during the day, Al would work on his insurance business in the evenings. He quickly built one of the largest insurance businesses in Thurston County, and owned Al Lamb Insurance for 52 years. Well into his 80's Al could still be seen riding his bike to work every day. Al was also heavily involved in Westwood Baptist Church, serving as an Elder for over 30 years and leading the church's outreach and Sunday Morning greeting programs. Al was a fixture out in the front of Westwood on Sundays, helping people, particularly newcomers, park and then find a seat. No one enjoyed worshipping the Lord more than Al, whose voice could often be heard singing throughout the sanctuary on a Sunday morning. Al also shared a lifelong love of radio. He started "hanging out" at stations around Tacoma at age 14, partnered with Keith Jackson on broadcasts at WSU and eventually put KMAS, in Shelton, on the air in 1962.

Al's love for God, his wife, and his family and friends will continue to live on. He is survived by his son Brian (Lynne), his daughter Melanie (Joe), six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his son, Michael and his grandson, Davis. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, 2 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Rd. NW, Olympia, WA 98502. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Olympia Union Gospel Mission.
