Bernadine Heusman Obituary

Bernadine May Heusman

Bernadine May Heusman was born in Aberdeen, Washington on May 21, 1915 to Byron Leroy (Roy) and Margaret Rose Ensign. As a child, she lived in many local logging camps. She graduated from William Winlock Miller High School in Olympia in 1934.
She married Melvin Charles Heusman on Novermber 3, 1936 in her parents Olympia Home. The groom's only sister, Ruth Heusman and the bride's only brother, Gordon Ensign, were their attendants. Together Mel and Bernie raised four children and built several houses in the Olympia area. Bernie led an active life including gardening, camping, fishing, bowling, reading, playing pinochle, motorcycling, traveling (in 5 different continents) and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A favorite family memory was the mad scramle for her Christmas gift of a huge box of hand crocheted slippers.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and survived by her children Barbara Hendershot (Warren), Lee Heusman (Lynda), Linda Hurley (Cliff) and Christi Long (Mike) who reside in the Olympia area; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life of 95 years on Sunday, September 26th from 1 to 4 pm at the home of Barbara and Warren Hendershot at 5905 78th Ave NE. Olympia.
