Frances Adolfson Obituary
Frances Rose (Hopkins) Adolfson passed away in Tumwater, Washington on January 30, 2005 at 93 years of age. Born in Spokane, Washington in 1911 to Gertrude and Logan Clark Nance, Frances was preceded in death by her brother, Jack, and sister, Mildred "Nancy" Casey. After working in her mother's Millinery Store on Riverside Avenue, Frances left Spokane at 21 years of age and moved to Seattle, staying at the Y.W.C.A. and getting a job at Frederick and Nelson's Department Store. Later, staying in a local boarding house, Frances met Sam Hopkins, and they married on Thanksgiving Day. Together they raised three children, Neal Hopkins, Dale Hopkins of California, and Nancy Tays of Olympia, Washington. In all, Frances had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, in addition to many wonderful friends she had known throughout the years. Frances and Sam lived and raised their family in Oakland, California, where Sam began his business, Sam Hopkins Legal Forms, and were married for thirty-seven years at the time of Sam's passing. After the loss of three full-term pregnancies due to the Rh factor, Frances was pleased to be part of a study at the University of California at Berkeley that led to a successful treatment. At the age of 72, Frances fell in love again, and married Theron Adolfson while living in Alameda, California. Very much people persons, Fran and Ted had a wonderful seventeen years together, with many stories to tell, a lot of "Early Bird" dinners, and trips to the auctions and down to Carmel, their home away from home. Always the bargain hunter, Frances had an eye for good costume jewelry, but mostly loved the simple things about life -- family dinners, little children, animals, beautiful music, and long walks around their beloved Alameda or Carmel-by-the-Sea.The family is most grateful for the care given Mrs. Adolfson at The Water's Edge Lodge in Alameda, California, and The Hampton and Westwood Assisted Living Facilities in Olympia, Washington. As she always took pride in being independent, each residence had something unique to offer, along with a caring staff, contributing so much to Frances' later years. Private graveside services will be held by the family. Any remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
