Gary Mattheis Obituary

Mason County Washington

On April 3rd,2025 Gary Lee Mattheis went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Gary was born on January 23,1942 in North Dakota to Walter and Anna Mattheis.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Carol Slavin and devoted wife of 50 years Stella. Gary leaves behind one son Deric Mattheis (Tierza) two granddaughters Sarah Mattheis Burleson (Mark) and Heather Mattheis Benfield (Greg) and three great-grandchildren Melisa Carpenter, Mark Burleson, Connor Burleson. Gary graduated from North Thurston High School and joined the Army National Guard in 1960 serving eight years. Gary started his career on June 1st 1968 and retired from the Olympia Fire Department on January 1st, 1985. In high school Gary belonged to The JC's, Crusaders of Olympia Car Club, and later in life he joined the Optimism Club and several others. Gary worked for the Thurston County Sheriff reserve, Tumwater Fire Department and the Jeep Patrol. Gary volunteered his service at the Olympic Air Show, and Capitol Lake fair for many years. Gary, Stella and Deric traveled and saw many of the western wonders. Gary was blessed to have numerous friends. The family asks in lieu of flowers, for any donations to be made to the many fire departments Gary was a member of.

A memorial will be held at

Station 5 April 19th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

4915 113th Avenue Southwest, Olympia, Washington.
