Grace Marohn Obituary

Grace Elizabeth Marohn was born in Wheelock, North Dakota on October 1, 1913 to Robert and Alice Wunderlich. She was the youngest of four children, and was predeceased by her brothers, Harry and Harold, and, most recently, by her 101-year-old sister, Margie Chaloner. Grace went to Normal School in North Dakota and became a teacher. She later moved to Spokane and married United States Army Captain Ralph L. Marohn on May 29, 1942. She lived in Alabama, Alaska, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, and Germany during her husband's tour of duty. Ralph passed away on May 10, 1983. Grace retired as Payroll Supervisor from the Finance Division at Fort Lewis.Grace enjoyed traveling around the world, and visited Europe, Australia, Central and South America, China, and Russia. She was a past Senior Regent of the Women of the Moose. Grace enthusiastically volunteered at the Washington State Capital Museum for 20 years, and was awarded Volunteer of the Year. She was also recognized as Volunteer of the Week by The Olympian for her other activities as well. Grace was proud to be a Lacey Rotary Creighton Hayes Fellow.Grace was very gracious, and enjoyed people and social gatherings, especially raucous parties. She was always game for any adventure.The family wishes to thank the thoughtful caregivers at Panorama City.Grace is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Alice Griggs, of Branson, Missouri; her daughter, Carol Chapen, and son-in-law, Greg Chapen, of Olympia; her daughter-in-law, Claire, and son, Mike Marohn, of Tumwater; and her grandchildren, Nathan, Colyn, Melanie, and Veronica Marohn.A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005, at Forest Funeral Home, 2501 Pacific Avenue S.E., Olympia. A Life Celebration Party will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Capital Museum Coach House, 214 West 22nd Avenue, Olympia.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Lacey Rotary Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3301, Lacey, Washington, 98509.
