Henry Bash Obituary
It is with deep regret that we suddenly had to say goodbye to Henry C. Bash Jr. (Hank), of Rochester, Wash on Sunday, December 2nd. He will be missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather, relative, friend, tax consultant and co-worker.Hank was born August 21, 1932 in Portland, Oregon to Henry Sr. and Anne Bash. He married Joanne Horgdal on September 23, 1960 and they raised a family in Olympia, Wash. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two sons, Henry Bash, III (Cherrie), of Olympia; John Bash (Kelly), of Rochester, Wash; and two daughters, Lesli Rodeheaver (Grant) and Melissa Bash of Rochester. He also leaves six grandchildren; Henry IV, Brooke, Erika, Haylee, Nicholas and Cedric.Following graduation from Olympia High School in 1951, Hank served our country in the U.S. Navy (submarine service for two of his four years). He worked for the Olympia Brewery while attending St. Martin's College where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering in 1964. He worked for and retired from the Washington State Department of Transportation and successfully maintained a tax consulting business for over 25 years. He also worked part-time as a real estate agent and, for a brief period, managed the Olympia timeshare fleet for the Elliot Bay Yacht Company.At the time of his death, he was serving as an Engineering Inspector for Washington State Emergency Management. He volunteered for the Olympia Police Harbor Patrol, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Olympia Yacht Club and the Olympia Elks Club.He enjoyed spending time with his family and had a lifelong love of boating and fishing that he shared with family and many friends. He was a loyal Washington Husky football fan and loved attending games at Husky Stadium. He enjoyed western movies, reading, crosswords, hiding cookies, dining at the Rochester Café and television.His family and friends will miss many things including his knowledge and expertise in a wide range of areas, his skills in home improvement and most of all his sense of humor. His generosity to family and perfect strangers will make this holiday season especially difficult without him.Hank was a Christian man and we are all better people for having known him. He is now in God's hands watching over all of his loved ones. He'll forever be in our hearts and minds and we all will cherish fond memories of our time with him. We love him and will miss him very much.Viewing is at Olympic Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Public Memorial Service on Saturday, December 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 21st & Franklin, Olympia, Wash. Reception immediately following at Swede Hall in Rochester, Wash. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Henry C. Bash, Jr. Olympia H.S. Scholarship fund through the Washington St. employee's Credit Union.
