Jack Orin Blain
November 7, 1938 - September 8, 2025
Rochester, Washington - Jack Orin Blain, age 86, of Rochester, Washington, passed away peacefully with family by his side. Born on November 7, 1938, in Spokane, Washington, Jack was the beloved son of Lorne and Dorothea Blain. He was one of three brothers, growing up alongside Harold and Kenneth Blain.
Jack graduated from Lindbergh High School in Spokane and went on to attend Washington State University in Pullman from 1956 to 1960, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. He later achieved a master's degree in education, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.
On April 17, 1959, Jack married the love of his life, Janice Blain, in Spokane. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Joan McKinney (Ron), Jim Blain (Carolyn), Jeff Blain (Shelly), and Jacque Dickerson (Jake). Jack was a proud and loving grandfather to nine grandchildren and14 great-grandchildren.
Throughout his career, Jack dedicated 30 years to the Rochester School District working as 4th grade and 7th grade Science teacher, Principal/Counselor at the old Grand Mound School and Primary School and Principal at Maple Lane before retiring in 1991.
Jack's passions extended far beyond the classroom. He loved working in his yard and took immense pride in landscaping his home. He was a devoted supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on. Jack was also a talented musician, playing drums and marimba with the band Sounds Feasible, bringing joy and rhythm wherever he went.
A lifelong and loyal Washington State University Cougar fan, Jack's spirit of perseverance and pride mirrored that of his beloved team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorne and Dorothea, and his brother Kenneth. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Janice Blain; his children and their spouses; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother Harold Blain.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of hospice who provided comfort and care in Jack's final days.
A Celebration of Life in Jack's honor will be held at Rochester Middle School on October 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Desserts and beverages will be served as family and friends gather to remember a life well lived.
Arrangements are being handled by Sticklin-Brown Funeral Chapel in Centralia.
Jack's warmth, wit, and unwavering love for family and community will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer's charity.
