Centralia, Washington - With love we announce the passing of Joan Elaine Rebman Slighte, 81, of Centralia, who died on April 13, 2025 in Olympia from cancer.
Joan was born in Shelton, Washington on May 2, 1943 and was raised in the Shelton area by her parents, John and Ellen Rebman.
Joan spent most of her life working. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at South Puget Sound Community College, she owned her own businesses typing with which she was proud to have been hired to type several books. After her retirement from SPSCC, she kept in touch with many of her collegues and friends by hiring them for test proctoring she supervised.
Joan's passions included traveling, going to the movies, driving, playing pool, fishing, crocheting, and photography. She loved the ocean and cruising to Alaska.
Joan is survived by her brother, John Edward Rebman Jr., her daughter, Margaret "Marty" Ellen Slighte, both of Olympia; 7 grandchildren and her beloved 9 great-grandchildren as well as a niece and nephew and a ton of cousins and friends.
Joan was predeceased by her son, Jason Ronald Slighte, Sr. in August 2023 and grandson Machalah "Maco" Alexander Slighte in June, 2011.
A service will be combined with a family reunion on August 17, 2025 at Squaxin Park in Olympia begining at 4 p.m.

Joan was a delightful person and wonderful colleague. She was always upbeat and ready to help. No matter what the question or crisis, she had an answer.

When I started working at the college in 1992, Joan went out of her way to keep me up to date on the college culture and expectations. She always knew what was going on, be it paperwork, or proctoring tests, or typing papers, she seemed to have a hand in a little bit of everything.
She was pleasure to work with and she always had a smile and kind word for the many faculty who passed by her desk.
Rest in peace Joan.
