Morris Loveless Obituary

Morris Joseph Loveless

Morris Joseph Loveless died on Friday, November 6, 2009, following a brief hospitalization. Death was caused by complications from pneumonia. Moe was 87 years old.
Born on March 22, 1922 in Alexandria Indiana, Moe was one of 8 brothers and sisters raised on a small farm during the depression. Deprivations of that time forged much of his belief system. Stories of those years were always told with humor which he taught his family to use as a defense during difficult times.
Moe joined the Navy in 1939 and served in the Pacific as a gunner's mate on ships guarding the supply fleet.
While in Olympia on leave visiting his sister Polly (Thunberg), he met and fell in love with Esther Christine (Chris) Thunberg. They married in 1946 and made their home on Cooper Point.
Moe worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone until 1954 when he and younger brother Chic opened Loveless Brother's Insurance and Real Estate Company. The brothers were responsible for much of the initial development of the Lacey area and were together during the concept phase of what would become Panorama City. Moe served as President and CEO of the Panorama City Corporation throughout the development of the retirement community, retiring from that position in the early seventies. Moe continued in the real estate development field for the rest of his life stopping only when boating and crabbing on Puget Sound became more important.
Throughout his life, Moe enjoyed farming with his family, raising cattle and horses on their home at Cooper Point. He enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting on both sides of the mountains and always had a Labrador beside him. Throughout his life Moe's passion was boating. He was a longtime member of the Olympia Yacht Club and most recently held the position of moorage master. Following the death of Chris in 1996, Moe moved to his boat, the Per Vida. He loved sailing the waters of Puget Sound and Southeast Alaska, making his last trip to Petersburg in 2005 where he finally caught his share of Alaskan king crab. He was always happiest when he was headed out of the harbor.
Moe was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Chris Loveless; his daughter, Patti Kay Zech; and his seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughters, Lori (Curt) Buher, Jill Loveless (Tim Lien); son-in-law, Daniel Zech (Patti Owens); grandchildren : Eric, Anne and Carl Buher and Amanda and Jillian Zech; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Moe's life will be held on December 27, 2009 in order to allow as many of his family and friends to gather as possible. It will be at The Olympia Yacht Club, 201 Simmons NW, Olympia WA 98501 at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in care of the Olympia Yacht Club Foundation.
Morris J. Loveless was a strong-willed man with an energy and vision that impacted many lives. His passion, his wit and his wisdom will be missed.

We have many fond memories of the hours we spent aboard each others boats....both at the club and in northern waters. His friendship, good humor and common sense will be sorely missed by all of us who had a chance to share in his life.

Uncle Moe was my granfather Ernie's brother. I used to see him at family reunions in Kokomo. He always had time to talk, even to the littlest kids.
When I got older Grandad and I flew out to hunt and fish with Chic and Moe. It was two weeks I will remember all my life. It was like episodes of The American Sportsman Show that I grew up watching on tv.
He was a breath of air that will be missed.

Moe was my grandma's brother (Mercedes Lear). I don't have lots of memories of him, but I do remember when he would visit Indiana, it was an "event" to my grandma and the rest of the family. Grandma was so proud of his accomplishments and always had stories to tell about him. She always reminded us that Moe was the perfect example that we could accomplish anything in life we wanted to if we tried hard enough.

I distinctly remember being six or seven years old and he taught me how to spell Tennessee. He held up one finger after another as he spoke, "1 a see, 2 a see, 3 a see, 4 a see.. 10 a see!".

Moe was my favorite uncle and I think because he did what he said he was going to do and damn the torpedos. The vacations on the Pajilo in the San Juans are still vivid. Moe challenged me as a 9 year old to shoot his captains hat off of a fence post with a 410 shotgun. Needless to say he had to finish that voyage with several BB's in his hat.

When I was 18 we picked up some friends that were trying to ride their bicycles from Yakima to Olympia (we were headed to Olympia). They needed a place to stay, so I called Moe and asked if he could put up a couple of 17 year olds. He immediately said yes and treated them like one of his own.

Later in life we hunted together with our Brittany spaniels, which mine was the son and brother to Moe's dogs. We got the dog from Moe when our son (5 years old) tugged on his leg and asked if he could have one of the puppies. Moe did not hesitate to say yes.

This is just a few of the many good memories. I will miss him.

Our families condolences to Jill, her husband Tim and the rest of the family. I knew Moe(or Dad) as I always called him, through Jill & Tim, who are long time friends of mine. Moe was a great guy; always quick with a joke and laughter. He definitely loved boating & fishing! May he rest in peace on the high seas of Heaven and meet up with his wife of many years, Chris, and also Big Al who made a few custom fishing rods for him. Lord Bless the family and relatives of Moe and keep him in your good graces.

In 1949 Moe took me boating on Bud Bay and fishing at a trout farm. Always hospitable over the years. Fondly remembered by a Canadian cousin.

Mike and I live on our boat at OYC, and it was always fun to run into Moe on the docks. He was always smiling and good for a great story or two. We are spending the winter in Tucson, and we already miss his beautiful smile and warm greetings on the dock. He is now in the boating world of heaven. We will miss you, Moe. Our prayers of love and peace are with all of you at this time.

I was with Moe during the beginning of Panorama City. Traveled with him around the state in the effort to raise investors. Even took in some of his housing trades to stave off the debt crisis. Probably knew Moe as well as anyone.....and was his biggest supporter when all the "in people" tried to put him down. Our family regarded him as a friend.....and trusted him completely. I assisted him with his asthma attacks and got him to his feet when the stress and attacks became too much. I used to tell the media folk (who found him a continuing source of interest) "Moe climbed down from a telephone pole to become one of the biggest men in Olympia" I still feel that way. God bless you Moe. He only made one of you!
