Morris Payne Obituary

Morris Logan Payne passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2003, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was born in Big Sandy, Mont. on March 24, 1918, and soon moved to Olympia. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1937. He married Jean Morrison in 1938, and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for State government, sold real estate, and owned a logging business until retirement. In earlier years, Morris was involved in the McLane Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and his flowers.His father and mother, Frederick and Mary Smith Payne; brothers, Lawrence and Stanley Payne; and wife, Jean, preceded Morris in death. He is survived by his son, Morris L. Payne, Jr. (Carolyn), of Olympia; daughter, Joanne M. LaLiberte, of Olympia; sister, Ollie (Bob) Wadlow, of San Jose, Calif.; sister-in-law, Lois Morrisson Payne, of Lacey; best friend and loving companion of the past 8 years, Ireeta Dolman, of Lacey; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all very precious to Morris; and many cherished nephews and nieces.A Memorial Service will be held at the Masonic Temple, 521 North Street, Tumwater, on Monday, March 3rd, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a short graveside service.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 202, Olympia, Wash., 98516-5769
