Paul Solomon Obituary

Paul Solomon Paul Solomon of Lacey, Washington, died May 29, 2012, after a brief illness following the loss of his wife Roberta, almost a year ago. Paul was born in Seattle on February 2, 1926, the son of Joseph and Hattie Ann (Brashen) Solomon. He graduated from Franklin High School and entered the US Army to serve in the European Theater during World War II, earning his Combat Infantryman Badge as a marksman, and also a Good Conduct Medal. He was very proud of his military service. Upon return, Paul graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he went on to earn his law degree. After a long and honorable career working as an assistant attorney general for the state, mostly with the Washington State Liquor Control Board, he retired in 1993. In his younger days, he was an avid skier, including earning National Ski Patrol certification. After he met Roberta (Pody), they moved to a house in Lacey in 1970, to raise their family. He was active and involved with numerous family priorities, including serving as PTA President, on the curriculum advisory board, and as Vice President of Temple Beth Hatfiloh in Olympia. He also volunteered for several years as an advisor for the Community Accountability Board for at-risk youth. After retirement, he also worked as a court appointed arbiter, and contributed his time as an enthusiastic volunteer "watchdog" at his grandchildren's school, a census taker, poll worker, and citizen bailiff at the local courthouse. Paul was a true sports fan, cheering on his beloved Huskies, Mariners, and Seahawks. He was a genuinely caring man and prided himself on being a dedicated husband, involved father, and devoted grandfather. He will truly be missed by his family and all of those who knew him. Paul is survived by daughter, Stacy (Solomon) Lappin, son-in-law Nathan Lappin, grandchildren, Raymond Joseph Lappin, Olivia Zoe Lappin, and Samuel Benjamin Lappin, of Puyallup; daughter, Paula Solomon Farber, son-in-law George Farber, granddaughter Shaina Pearl Farber of Federal Way; son, Jerry Solomon of Las Vegas; brother, Orley Solomon of Seattle; sister, Marsha (Solomon) Hirsh of Tucson, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. A small service was held graveside at Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater for immediate family and friends. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, Community Youth Services of Thurston County, Temple Beth Hatfiloh in Olympia, or the charity of your choice. I could tell by the behavior of his son that he was a great father. Rarely do you get someone who has such a zest for life such a strong ethical and moral code. Paul was obviously an excellent Dad!

I will always remember the many hours Paul and I spent on the tennis court 70's and 80's...many many good memories! Your serve, Paul! It was an honor to work with you at the Liquor Control Board.

We enjoyed Paul having Paul as a neighbor and would look forward to talking to him and Roberta when they would take their strolls. Paul was active in our neighborhood Block Watch program, as well. Our heartfelt condolences to the Solomon family.

I am very saddened to hear of Paul's passing. My first job as an attorney in 1979 was working with Paul. It was a very memorable and enjoyable experience that I will always think of fondly. We remained in contact ever since. When we had lunch recently, he brought with him photos of his family that he always enjoyed discussing. Farewell Paul - I will miss you.

Sorry to hear of the passing of a great, and kind, man. We worked together from 1989-1993, but I always enjoyed running into him around town. He was very proud of all of his children.

My sincere condolances to all the Solomon family. I had the honor of working with Paul for many years at the Attorney General's Office and have never met a nicer person or a more devoted family man. He will be missed.
