Richard Glasgow Obituary

Richard Edwin Glasgow, 76, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at his home in Olympia and surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born May 8, 1930, in Stratford, Oklahoma, to Jesse and Talmadge Glasgow. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school and served tours in Korea and Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. When he retired after 30 years of service, Richard was a Master Aviator and was ranked Chief Warrant Officer 4. Throughout his military career Richard received several awards for his superior achievements, including the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. He loved every moment he sat in the pilot's seat of the CH-21C helicopter that Richard had the privilege to fly. While stationed in Germany, he met and married, Ursula Anna Maria Zientek, February 6, 1954. After leaving the Armed Forces, Richard worked for Wilson and Graves Homes and then ventured out on his own, running his own cabinet and hardwood floor installation business. Richard was a lifetime member of the Flying Bear Association. He was also past President of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association, fulfilling his duties with the same fortitude he put into everything. Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ursula Glasgow; their children, Karl, Helene and Ursula; grandchildren, Chris Heilman, Karlee and Kari Glasgow, Shawna and Shane McKinley; great grandson, Ryan Heilman; brother, Jesse Glasgow and sister Merle Summers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe. Our family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their support. The family will hold a gathering to celebrate Richard's life this summer.
