Ruby Halverson Obituary

96 years- Born Feb. 10, 1908 in Ontario, Canada to Henry E. Swan and Rhoda M. Swan, oldest of six children, Ruby died Nov. 18, 2002.She moved to Spokane, WA at the age of 2, went to school there and graduated from North Central High in 1926. Ruby married Leo L. Buhhard in 1931 and they had three children. In 1950 she married Kenton I. Halverson.Ruby was a walker (she never drove a car), an avid shopper, loved her Reno trips, Bingo, and spent many hours sewing anything from coats to doll clothes. She continued this into her 90's. Ruby also like woodworking crafts, Tole painting and family parties.She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters, her son, two husbands and one step-daughter. Surviving Ruby are her two daughters, Patricia L. Jones (Dick), Jeanine M. Corey (Les) both of Puyallup; daughter-in-law, Dixie Jones of Lacey; and her step-daughter, Shirley Elmore (Hugger) of Petaluma, CA; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.Ruby worked in sewing factories, grinding lenses for Bauch & Lomb, various retail ventures and Avon Lady. She was always busy, followed her rules-an independent but loving lady.The family would like to thank Rainier Vista Care Center: Lisa, Bonnie, Pat, Nancy and all who cared for her there this past year.At her request, no service will be held. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your favorite charity or her favorite, Salvation Army Food Bank.Until we meet again- all our love-Your family-all of us!
