Sheila Ostlund Obituary

Sheila Dean Ostlund (86) passed away September 1, 2025 peacefully at her home in Olympia.

Sheila was born in Aberdeen on October 13, 1938 and graduated from Hoquiam HS in 1956. Sheila married John Ostlund of Tacoma in 1960, and they had a loving 61-year marriage until John passed away in 2022. John and Sheila had two sons - Robert Ostlund (60) of Olympia, and Michael (Jennifer) Ostlund (57) of Nocona, Texas.

Sheila is survived by six grandchildren: John Ostlund, Jeffrey Ostlund, Jessica (Cody) Lewin; Anjennette (Zach) Roeber, Jadynne Ostlund, and Madison Ostlund. Sheila also had one beloved Great Grandson, Cameron Lewin.

Sheila enjoyed a long satisfying nursing career of 44 years. She was a graduate of the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Throughout her nursing career she was always a strong patient advocate.

Sheila made her choice at the age of 10 to put absolute faith in the words and promises of Jesus and remained faithful to that promise throughout her life.

Sheila will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, caring nurse, devoted wife, and loyal friend to many.

Funeral service will be held at the Twin Cities Senior Center in Centralia on Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m. Graveside service will be held Monday September 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt View Memorial Park in Lakewood.

Yesterday

The service today was a beautiful tribute of Sheila´s life and choices. Thinking of you, Bob and the comfort your choices have been to your dear Mom these last years. I´m sorry I never got to know you, Mike but all of her family especially will miss her very much. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew and loved her. I first met your folks back in 1961 when I came to Tacoma in pursuit of a nursing job at Mary Bridge Children´s hospital. Many prayers are with you, love, Barbara

Yesterday

Sheila and I go a long way back. She was a very good friend and stayed in a two room apartment with Loyce Overturf, Carol(can't remember her last name) and myself. The stay was short as Carol and Sheila found another room to rent. We had good times together and stayed in touch for quite a while. Sheila had a good sense of humor and was loyal to her choice to serve God. I know she will be missed but the memories will be good, Lillian Nelson

Our condolences go out to the Ostlund family and friends. We hold many fond memories of Sheila. Our earliest recollections date back to her time in nursing school, when she and two other young women-whose names I cannot recall-would come to our home for meetings and social occasions. Our dad, who had a great sense of humor, would joke with them and make them all laugh.
Later, after Sheila and John were married, they became young people whom one could look up to and admire. We often saw them at convention, always ready to help. They served in the cafeteria line, offering Martina Gulbra´s famous potatoes with roast beef and brown gravy, and they were always smiling and cheerful.
On the day our dear mother passed, John and Sheila were among the first to be there for us. We will never forget them. Rest in peace, Sheila.

Bob and Mike,
Our hearts go out to you as we know that your mom was a special friend to us and we are sure she was that and far more to you as well. She was a beautiful, kind, loving, caring person who truly wanted the best for everyone. Your folks are fondly remembered.
