Shirley Prescott Obituary

Shirley Ann Prescott Shirley Ann Prescott received the Last Rites, rejoining beloved family and friends on life's next journey January 29, 2013. Born to August and Mary Petersen in Tacoma, WA February 22, 1925, Shirley had a keen appreciation for life. She is survived by brother Donald Jean Petersen, daughter Pamela Ann Prescott, son Charles "Herk" Prescott, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Affectionately called the "Warlord", Shirley overcame multiple sclerosis to start the Tack Shack in Bothell, WA. She retired in 1986 from Department of Ecology, the first woman hired to conduct water quality field testing. An avid sportswoman, Shirley enjoyed horseback riding, rodeo activities, and hunting. She delighted in flowerbeds and container gardens. A founding member of the Olympia Chapter Sweet Adelines, Shirley also served for many years on the Thurston County Fair Board of Directors. Fulfilling a life-long dream, she traveled extensively in retirement, enjoying Mississippi paddle wheeling, an Amazon cruise, and Alaska, Mazatlan, Canada, Novia Scotia, and Hawaii. A summer BBQ party and MacNaughton's toast is being planned to celebrate Shirley's life.

Grammie lived her life celebrating day-to-day joys of the family, friends and land she loved so much. I am forever grateful to have been one of her adopted grandkids and neighbor too. God bless her patience and the serenity she shared. Shirley Prescott was indeed an inspiration to many. She is thought of often and will be remembered fondly.

I worked with Shirley back in the days when I worked for the Department of Ecology. In fact we one summer we collected water quality samples from Commencement Bay. She was quite a woman.

Cheers Shirley,
