Lacey, Washington - Our beloved father, Wadell D. (Dell) Snyder, passed May 16, 2023 at age 93. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on September 24, 1929 to the late Ulysses Snyder and late Floretta Johnson Snyder. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 58 years, Myrtle Smith Snyder, and 5 sisters, Margaret, Delores, Elizabeth, Brenda and Vera. Wadell is survived by children Rinee Merritt, Wadell Snyder Jr., and Sher Begay as well as sister Shirley Snyder, granddaughters, nieces and nephews.
After receiving several medals for his service in the Korean War, including the Korean Service and United Nations Service Medals), Wadell attended Kent State where he met Myrtle and completed his undergraduate and Masters. He earned his Doctorate in Administrative Education from the University of Oregon in 1973.
Dr. Wadell Snyder was a lifelong educator, education administrator and served as a mentor and counselor to many. He had an impressive history of achievements including:
· Phi Delta Kappa member
· Deputy Director of the Tongue Point Job Corp in Astoria, Oregon.
· Director of Staff Personnel and Benefits, Central Washington University
· Community Education Services, Lane Council of Governments
· Juneau World Affairs Council, Board of Directors
After retirement, Wadell successfully pursued quilt making and kiln glass artistry. His glass work was featured in several art shows. Wadell also loved watching football.
Wadell was much loved, words cannot express how much he will be missed. The family will be holding a private family celebration of life next year. Those wishing to send a message may contact: [email protected].

I will truly miss my brother in love Wadell. He and I could talk for hours on history, which he is an expert on, and also talk politics. My sincere condolences to my niece, Renee, nephew, Dell Jr., and niece Sher.
