Billy Carothers Obituary
He is survived by Shirley Carothers, his wife of 65 years. Also surviving are three children, Beth Forbes of Lafayette, IN, Chris Carothers and Tina Crosby both of Bremen; four grandchildren, Alissa (Tyler) Chupp, Connor Forbes, Bryant Crosby and Cameron Forbes and two great grandchildren, Adalayde and Jenson Chupp. As well as sisters Mildred Lind, Janice Beane and brother Jack Carothers.
Bill was born Nov. 30, 1938 to Delmar and Pauline (Thomas) Carothers in Bremen and was part of a large family of 12 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Bremen High School in 1956 and was married to Shirley Martin on May 18, 1958. He was employed by NIPSCO for 38 years. With a fun sense of humor, Bill did not know a stranger and could carry on conversations with almost anyone. He loved sports including bowling and golf and pitched softball for many years on teams across northern Indiana. His favorite sports teams were the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Purdue and Notre Dame Universities and also supported many local sports teams. He also liked to travel and favorite vacation spots included Wisconsin and the Gulf Shores, AL. He also camped for many years with friends and family. He was known to have created a full basketball court in his barn in Bourbon for all to enjoy. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bremen where he was a trustee and Awana leader. He was very active in the church's Annual Sportsman's Banquet.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 at the First Baptist Church, 414 E. Lincoln St., Bremen with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bremen, 414 E. Lincoln St., Bremen, IN 46506.

Billy was my husband's roommate at Pilgrim Manor. He always had a smile and looked out for my husband if he needed something. He looked forward to visits from Shirley and other members of his family waiting in the hall for their arrival. He is sadly missed.

I did not know Billy until I moved into Pilgrim Manor However my husband Paul Rowe did.Paul was from Bremen and he also knew him from NIPSCO I played bingo a lot with Bill He will be missed.
