David Penrose Obituary

David Joe Penrose, 75, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023.
Born in Osaka, Japan, he was the son of the late Lt. Col. Clifford E. and Cenith Arlene McCoy Penrose. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. David was retired from the University of Chicago where he served as a carpenter. He loved his family and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, photography, and traveling. He was a member of NewSpring Church. David and Kathleen were longtime residents of Plymouth, Indiana prior to moving to Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Kathleen Penrose; daughter, Jennifer Sangl (Joseph); son, Daniel Nijakowski (Laura); daughter, Chelsee Wood (Garrett); grandchildren, Melea, Keaton, Megan, Karlee, Jacob, Tucker, and Dexter; and three brothers, Clifford E. Penrose II (Linda), Douglas Penrose (Sharon), and Dana Penrose.
A Celebration of Life service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Joseph Sangl. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Monday at the mortuary prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation (pkdcure.org) or Disabled American Veterans (dav.org).
