James N. McAfee
December 9, 1936 - April 17, 2018

PLYMOUTH - James N. "Matchstick Man" McAfee, age 81 of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, in Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth with his loving family by his side.
Jim was born on December 9, 1936 in Mishawaka, to Guy and Mary (Hanes) McAfee.
Jim was a lifelong resident of the Plymouth area.
On July 8, 1956 Jim married the former Geneva Carothers in Burr Oak, she preceded him in passing on July 6, 2009.
On April 16, 2011 Jim married Marilyn Hammel.
Jim was a retired from Dodge after 26 years of service as an inspector, machinist and electrician journeyman, who was always fixing things for his family and friends. Jim honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Jim was a member of the Moose Lodge #741 and the Inwood United Methodist Church. He was known as the "Matchstick Man" because of his hobby of making a wide variety of items from matchsticks. His most memorable is the cross made from 350 Popsicle sticks. Jim enjoyed bowling but his greatest joy was his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn McAfee of Plymouth; his children, Tammy (Randy) Holdeman of Lakeville, Julie Kidwell of Richmond, Curtis McAfee of South Bend, Jamey McAfee of Knox, his step-children, Karen (Bob) Deon of Plymouth, Dawn (Phil) Grossman of Argos, Donna (Jim) Wenzel of Plymouth, Kenny (Cherazel) Rogan of Plymouth; also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchild and step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; James is preceded in passing by his parents, his first wife, Geneva; his daughter, Robin; his brothers, Walter, Floyd, Wendell and Donald; his sisters, Betty, Jean and Marjorie.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the McAfee family.
A funeral service in honor of James will be held in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Ind. 46563 at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, with the Pastor Doug Spurlock officiating.
Burial will be in the New Oak Hill Cemetery.
Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1162 American Legion Post #27 and the DAV at the New Oak Hill Chapel.
A time of visiting with the McAfee family will also be held in the Van Gilder Funeral Home on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The McAfee family requests memorial contribution e be made to The Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S. Center Street Suite C Plymouth, Ind. 46563

Sorry to hear of Jim's passing, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope. In the days to come may you find comfort in that hope.
