Sterling P. Davis
February 1, 1937 - November 23, 2018

TYNER - Sterling P. "Peter" Davis, 81, passed away in his home on Friday morning Nov. 23.
Born in Binghamton, New York on Feb. 1, 1937, Peter was the only child born to Sterling and Helen A. (Powers) Davis. He graduated from Binghamton High School. Peter went on to graduate with his Bachelors Degree in Philosophy from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., on a full-ride academic scholarship.
Peter served our country in the U.S. Marines as a Reserve until his Honorable Discharge.
Before technology was what it is today, Peter was an educational textbook salesman. He then later became a soft-ware developer of educational school software until his retirement in 2008. Peter was proud to be the youngest member of the Million Dollar Club for Harcourd Brace Inc.
Born and raised in upstate New York, that is where his love always came back to. He enjoyed trout fishing and fly fishing at Beaver Kill in New York. Peter was an avid organic gardener, and in his later years, began woodworking and harvesting trees on his own property.
Peter is survived by his sons, Sterling Peter (Maureen) Davis III of Elkton, Md. and Robert Guy (Jinnifer) Davis of Rockford, Mich.; three grandchildren Robert, Ana and Gabriela; and his son's mother, Theresa Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth.
Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. with Fr. John Korcsmar C.S.C officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Deposit, N.Y. with his parents.
Peter's sons would like to say thank you to his caregivers, Kelly, Dusty and Vickie, who gave their father over eight years of love and care when they were not able to be close.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research,

I did not know Peter passed, but noticed his home on the market. Spending years visiting him and bringing him goodies, walking down to the pond, and our lengthy talks about everything, I will miss him greatly. Ive cleaned his home, helped him when he was hurting (the neuropathy was pretty bad), and helped with software when we were all younger. Ill always love and miss you, my friend. Im so sorry I didnt get a chance to say goodbye...

He has been a long time friend and neighbor. We moved to Tyner the same year we soon became friends, sharing our love of woodworking, computers and fishing. We often went fly fishing together. I made him flies, he made me fly boxes.
He taught my children a lot, and let them help with software development. He would tell them there were big cats in the woods, and to say big cat spare me if the were in the woods after dark. One night when we were fishing too late, he remarked something to the effect that one of these days it could be his last time. Has he stepped on to land he found he could not walk.
I had to leave him in the dark to get another truck, and the big cat story kept running through my head. Pete I will dearly miss you the rest of my life.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Peter's family, sorry for your loss. Jeremiah 29:11, 12 assures us that God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope, and that if we come and pray to Him, He will listen to us. May that bring you comfort in this time of sorrow.
