GERALD WEBSTER Obituary

SANDY RIDGE - Gerald Lee "Jerry" Webster, 78, passed away Sept. 23, 2024 suddenly at his favorite place and yearly vacation "Home away from home" in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Jerry was born June 10, 1946 in Philipsburg to Fred and Mary Webster of Sandy Ridge.

He is survived by his wife Marcia Coleman, whom he married on St. John, USVI on April 25, 2002. He is also survived by brothers Allen, Henry and Dennis, all of Philipsburg; and sisters Shirley Dunlap of Milesburg and Debbie Panulla of State College; and by a half sister Madeline Scaife of Osceola Mills. Also, a half brother Fred Nowading of Kingman, Ariz. Jerry is also survived by 24 nieces and nephews, many great and a few great great.

As a youngster, Jerry acquired the nick name "Pear" and it stuck by many.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and half brothers, James, Fred, Donald, Charlie, Russell, Raymond; and a half sister Margaret Simcox.

Soon after graduating from Philipsburg High School in 1964, he went to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI.

From 1966 to 1968, Jerry served his country in the U.S Army. After returning from Vietnam, he went to the Pennsylvania State University and completed a B.S. degree in accounting in three years.

Jerry has fond memories of working at Whitehill Lighting, Belling and Mull, Conrail railroad, his own accounting business, and the School of Nursing in Philipsburg, before he started his career at Penn State University in the controller's office.

After 27 years of service he retired and became a snowbird where he loved the warmer weather. Jerry was also the proprietor of the Wicker and Brass Works store in Philipsburg since 1981, Altoona and State College. He enjoyed life to his fullest. He loved all sports and enjoyed 40 years of PSU football seasons and many years of basketball. He enjoyed his Thursday nights twi-nite golf league at the Philipsburg Country Club, his favorite place to spend time with friends. Jerry also was a history buff, always including history with traveling. Quiet days or evenings Jerry enjoyed boating, watching sports, sitting on the beach and a glass of wine.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life in honor of Jerry at the Elks Lodge, Philipsburg on Oct. 19, 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Pear was one of a kind, my memory goes goes back a good many years ago, when we played softball in the Osceola league for hometown Sandy Ridge. Pear was the short stop for the games and he was great to say the least! Sleep well my Brother the lord will take over now.
