Joseph Gary Good

1955 - 2025

RANCHO PENASQUITOS, Calif. - Joseph Gary Good, 70, of Rancho Penasquitos, San Diego County, Calif., died July 5, 2025, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in LaJolla, Calif.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1955 at Philipsburg State Hospital in Philipsburg. Joe was the son of the late Alfred E. Good Jr. and Audrey Naomi Good.

Joe was a 1973 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School where he participated in both football and baseball. After graduating, Joe attended Penn State University and also managed one of his family's restaurants. Upon completing his studies, he returned to San Diego, Calif. where he was raised prior to attending high school in Pennsylvania. He began a lengthy career in the grocery industry until his recent retirement.

Joe met his beloved wife, Anne Marie Hagata, in San Diego and they were married April 23, 1994. They raised two wonderful sons, Michael Matthew of Tuscon, Ariz. and Ethan James of San Diego, Calif. Anne survives at their home.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Linda, a niece, Amanda Matusko, and a nephew, Michael J. Good.

Along with his wife, Anne, and sons, Michael and Ethan, Joe is survived by siblings, Susan Matusko, Thomas and his wife, Doreen, Michael and his wife, Robin, all of Philipsburg, and Lisa A. Good of Bellefonte; brothers-in-law, Steve Hagata of California and Glenn Hagata and his wife, Corrie, of Wisconsin; nieces, Heather Andrews, Autumn Anderson, Haley McCracken, and Katherine Blair Hagata; nephews, Jesse Matusko, Levi Good, and Brent Hagata.

Joe was an avid runner and logged his 50,000th mile in 2018. He also loved animals, especially dogs, and would pet sit at his home, often several at a time and sometimes overnight.

Joe would have loved any support of your local ASPCA.

The family will be having a celebration of life memorial service in San Diego on Nov. 2, 2025.
