NANCY PETERS Obituary

MEDIA - Nancy Lee (Fry) Peters, born in Utahville and most recently of Media, Pa., passed away on Nov. 7, 2024, due to complications from a long battle with Parkinsonism.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John R. Peters; her sister Joyce Fry; and her parents, Melvin and Lois Fry.

She is survived by her daughters Cheryl Lynn-Peters Koontz and Jennifer Peters Kantmann; and their loved ones.

Nancy lived a full life, always attending to those she held dear.

She was a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business School and worked various administrative jobs prior to landing at Rose Tree Media School District where she worked for 35 years, finishing as the Career Center Counselor at Penncrest High School. Nancy was also a hostess and a manager at the Delaware Country Summer Festival at Rose Tree Park for more than 30 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Media.

A practical lady and a lifelong supporter of education, Nancy choose to donate her body to science through the Humanity Gifts Registry. It is the family's hope that through this gift, advancements may be made in Parkinson's research and that future doctors will gain practical experience through hands-on analysis of the human body.

Nancy was always content to let others shine. A steady advocate for the underdog, she invited many people into her home and her life so that she could provide whatever support they needed. Fiercely protective of her two girls, she nevertheless taught them to stand on their own and to speak up when situations called for it. She loved music and dancing, and Saturday morning chores were accompanied by both. As a mom, she was strict and did not tolerate arrogance, but she celebrated every success and every performance, went on the field trips, was the cookie mom for Girl Scouts, and would sleep on the bedroom floor if you were sick, just in case you needed something. Quite simply, she was the wind beneath so many people's wings.

Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service.

Honorary donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or an organization of your choice.

Special thanks to the staff at Plush Mills Assisted Living and at Sterling Nursing Home who provided residency and services to Nancy from April 1 until her death after several years of in-home support from her girls.

I was so sorry to read this. Nancy and I got to know one another through her years at Penncrest when I helped with financial aid presentations. I called her several times after she retired. Rest in peace. What a fine lady.

So sorry to hear this. I remember her fondly from Penncrest High School where she helped so many of us get into college or trade school or find a career. Such a wonderful, kind person.

My prayers and condolences Cheryl to you and your family. I first met your mom in Penncrest when I went in to the career center looking for my first job. She, thankfully, referred me to Paul, Mardinly and Durham of Media. To this day it has been my favorite job for many reasons. Im glad I got to thank her when I saw her and I will continue to remember her fondly as our paths crossed from time to time.

Mrs. Peters was SO kind. She worked at Media ES when I was in elementary school and I came out of the bathroom crying because I had dropped my quarter (that was for pretzel day) in the toilet. She went in and got it out for me! By the time I got to PHS she was there and was always a smiling face I could go to. I´m so sorry for your loss, but not at all surprised that she donated her body to science... always willing to help...even after she left.

Mrs. Peters was an amazing woman, she was an amazing mom to alot of us in school and in the neighborhood. The Peters were my neighbors and she always treated me like family. She will be greatly missed, but the memories she helped create with me and her children will live on forever. She may be absent from the body, but her energy and spirit will always live on. Rest in Heavenly Peace Mrs. Peters. You will be missed and you were so loved.

Always,

Tawala Lee
