Robert Kearn Obituary

Robert A. Kearn, Sr., or Pop as he was known to his family, of Shimer Manor, Pohatcong Township, passed peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 90 at Country Meadows, Forks Township, PA. He was the devoted husband of Anne E. (Cavannaugh) Kearn.
He loved Notre Dame, Miller Lite, golf, smoking cigars with his grandsons, Jacob and Ryan Parrish (his eyes would shine when he spoke about them), Easton football, the seafood tower at Third & Ferry in Easton, and Sam's and Clams at Bella Via in Phillipsburg. He also loved a good yarn and like a good Irishman, the stories he told shifted and grew with each telling.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA he was the son of the late Alexander Kearn, Sr. and Mary (Hughes) Kearn.
He was a 1954 graduate of Hanover High School, Wilkes-Barre, attended Kings College in Wilkes-Barre and graduated in 1958 from East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA.
That same year he married Anne Cavanaugh, whom he had met at a dance at Lehigh University in Bethlehem where he earned a master's degree in 1962. The minute he saw her red hair, he said he fell in love and the two were married for 67 years. They had two children: Kathleen Parrish of Easton, PA and Robert Kearn, Jr., of Phillipsburg, NJ.
He worked for 35 years in the Easton School District: an assistant principal at Easton Junior High School, principal of Shull Junior High School, principal of Easton Middle School and served as Easton's athletic director before retiring in 1993. One year, he was named principle for the state of Pennsylvania.
After retiring from Easton School District, he worked as a corporate representative for Lincoln Investment for 10 years. He served as chairman of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association's District XI athletic committee. He also served on the PIAA's Board of Control in Mechanicsburg, PA.
He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 474 of Phillipsburg and a past Faithful Navigator of Pope John Assembly of the Fourth Degree. He was past president of the Principal's Association and past AARP president of the Phillipsburg Chapter #4704.
He is survived by his wife; children; Chris Parrish, who he considered a son; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Alexander Kearn, Jr. and John Kearn; and sister Helen Kearn Schaefer.
A viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., on Sunday, September 21, 2025 in Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home, Inc., 695 Corliss Ave., Phillipsburg. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 830 5th Avenue, Alpha, N.J. Entombment will follow Mass in the parish mausoleum. Condolences to Mr. Kearn's Family and Friends. A good Latin Teacher @ Shull Jr. High, very patient with me a lousy student. My Plaster Appian Way project crumbled and he humorously said, 'I do not see construction in your future'. He was correct.
