Edel was born in Magdeburg, Germany, to her parents Else Maria and Walter Schafer.
Four years later, the family moved to Berlin where Edel spent her growing years and lived through the bombardments of World War II. The Berlin Airlift brought the love of her life, Edward Lake, to Germany which began the family of Edward, Edel, son Raymond and daughter Angela.
Additional U.S. Air Force assignments brought the family to Mather, Calif., where Edel obtained her American citizenship, then to France for 3 1/2 years, then a Travis Air Force Base assignment which resulted in Ed's military retirement, subsequent employment with the state of California, life in the Vacaville area and finally Leisure Town.
Edel kept busy with the children, working for Strauman's as a buyer and department head, and later with her dry cleaning business and tailor shop.
After a 9 1/2-year interval in Germany taking care of Edel's parents, subsequently bringing them back to the United States, Edel began her Vacaville activities. These included Unity Church of the Valley, Sorority, Saturday Club, Leisure Town Clowns, Women's Club, Entertainers, rummage sales and many city fashion shows.
Edel always loved being in charge of the Tribute to Seniors fashion shows and working for her friends at The Kelly Company.
She leaves behind the loves of her life, husband Ed; son, Raymond with wife Valerie; daughter, Angela Hiatt with husband Ross; four grandchildren, Kristina, Stacy, Joshua and Justin; and seven great grandchildren.
Services and a celebration of Edel's life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m., at The Saturday Club in Vacaville.
