George Tomasini Obituary

Dec. 1, 1918  -  Sept. 5, 2013
George Jay Tomasini, 94, passed away at home near Fairfield on Thursday, Sept. 5, after a long illness. 
George was born to George Jay Tomasini and Augusta Chadbourne Tomasini on Dec. 1, 1918 in San Francisco. He attended and graduated from Crystal Grammar School in Suisun City and Armijo High School in Fairfield. In 1940, he graduated from College of the Pacific in Stockton with a Bachelor's degree in Business and Economics and with a pilot's license earned during an aeronautics course. 
Immediately after college graduation, George joined the U.S. Naval Reserve and entered training as an Aviation Cadet at Pensacola, FL. Upon graduation in 1941, George served as a Naval Aviator until 1946, including service as a flight instructor at Corpus Christi and Kingsville, TX and combat duty flying from the aircraft carrier "Hornet" in the Pacific Theater. 
On Nov. 16, 1941, George married Juanita A. Weaver in Corpus Christi, TX.  They moved to Suisun Valley in 1943 and to Fairfield in 1947. 
After attending insurance classes at The Travelers Insurance Company Home Office in Hartford, CT, and at Stanford University and obtaining California Insurance Agent and Broker licences, George joined the Young Insurance Agency in Fairfield in 1947 and served as an employee, partner and owner of the business until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1983.
During and after his insurance career, George was also a 66 year member of the Fairfield Lions Club; a Scoutmaster for the Lions Club sponsored Boy Scout Troop in 1949 and 1950; a charter member of Green Valley Country Club; volunteer Treasurer of the Fairfield Committee of the Salvation Army from 1950 to 1983; Director of the local Chapter of the American Red Cross in the 1950's; a member of the Solano County Juvenile Justice Commission in the late 1950's and early 1960's; a Director of the Bank of Fairfield, and its successor, Solano County Bank, from 1970 to 1983; a member of the NorthBay Healthcare Corporation's Board of Directors from 1976 to 1992, including a term of service as Chairman of the Board; and a member of the Board of Directors of the Fairfield Public Improvement Corporation for serveral years beginning in 1980.
George is survived by his son Jay (Judith) of Fairfield; daughters and son-in-laws, Sally (Jack) Breshears of Anderson and Virginia (Robert) Christensen of The Sea Ranch, CA; and daughter and companion Mary Tomasini and Constance Callahan of Red Bluff; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Juanita in 2012; his parents; step-father, Wood N. Young; sister, Ruth T. Corson; brother, Frederick A. Tomasini; and one grandson.
The family wishes to recognize and thank caregivers, Josephine Dufva, Nora Santos and Pamela Vaughn for the special care they provided George during his illness. 
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W. Texas St., Fairfield. Private interment will be held at Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery at a later date. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to NorthBay Healthcare Foundation, 4500 Business Center Drive, Fairfield, CA 94534-6888.

Im sorry in hearing of the passing of Tricia's grandfather. My prayers are with you all during this difficult time. He did so much for the community. Im sure what he has done and his ideas will live on.
