James Leedy Obituary

May 17, 1928 - April 21, 2015

James Almond Leedy, 86, passed away at home in Cameron Park, CA on Tuesday, April 21. He was born May 17, 1928, in Arnett, OK. After graduating from Sweetwater High School in Chula Vista, he visited his older brother in Vacaville, and met Irene Shirley Rico, the woman who would become his wife of 52 years.

Jim worked 35 years for Pacific Bell, advancing his career from lineman to manager, while moving his family throughout California with each promotion. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed sailing in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento Delta with his family on their boat, Andiamo. He was a handyman who built his own home in Mormon Island Park, where he loved to grow oak trees. But above all, he was a man of high integrity who cherished his family and many friends.

He married Kay Robinette after the death of his first wife, and became very active in their church. Together they enjoyed trips to the coast and visiting family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 12 years, Kay Robinette Leedy; son, Mark Leedy (Lorraine); daughters, Jamie Leedy Oldham and Renee Leedy Traud (Mike); and grandchildren, Brandon A. Oldham, Darin Claire Leedy, Drew Leedy, Garrison Traud, and Chase Traud. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Charles Leedy; brother, Clete Leedy; and loving wife, Irene Rico Leedy.

Internment will be held at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery on Friday, May 1, at 3:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jim's name to World Hunger-ELCA, c/o St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 1001 Olson Lane, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762.

I didn't know Jim had passed until doing a search. He grew the most incredible garden and threw the best easter parties. He was a great friend to the neighbor kid next door on Mormon Island Drive. Brandon, feel free to contact me at [email protected]

You were a fair man. I miss you. I will never forget the things you taught me.

To the Leedy family: Your husband/father was closer than any uncle I've had. I enjoyed seeing him and spending all those Thanksgiving dinners together (about 30!). Too many memories to list . . . from showing me his acorn collection to teaching me how to play bocce ball. In the 50+ years I was aquainted with him, I never saw him raise his voice . . . honestly, he was one of the most patient, wise people I've ever known. God Bless. Jennifer Thielbahr - New York
