Joe Stocking Obituary

Our world lost a very special person when Joe Stocking passed away June 1, 2022. His final days were spent with his wife, Beverly, and surrounded by his family and friends. Joe was born March 27, 1930, to Howard and Lucretia Stocking in Sacramento, CA. He was the youngest and last surviving family member of the eleven Stocking children. In his teens, Joe met the love of his life, Beverly, and the two of them spent the next 70+ years building a family, a business and traveling the world together. Joe served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Joe and Beverly were married in Carson City on June 9, 1953, en route to their first home at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, where Joe was to be stationed.Relocating back to California, they made their home in Marysville where they had their two sons, Bryant and Curtis. While working during the day, Joe attended night classes at Sacramento City College and later graduated from Yuba College with a BA in Business Administration and Management. Joe was employed by Standard Oil of California until becoming a Commission Agent for them in 1961, moving to Vacaville that same year; he went on to be the founder of BC Stocking Distributing in 1976. Joe was very active in the community, serving with the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce, Vacaville Rotary Club and serving on a number of boards.Upon retiring from the business they created with their sons, Bryant and Curtis, Joe and Beverly retired to the island of Faial in the Azores. They built a new home there and immersed themselves into the community of Horta, calling that home for the next 15 years. Joe never did learn the language, but the locals loved him like one of their own and affectionately dubbed him "the Americano!" They entertained many visiting family members and friends at their island home for years and gladly provided guided tours with their visitors.Returning to Vacaville in 2004, they spent a lot of time rekindling old friendships and enjoying the company of their family…especially their grandkids.Joe is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Bryant and family, Brandon (Sarah), Erica and Emily, Bronson (Desarae), Harper, and Colton; and their mother, Barbara; Curtis (Susie) and family, Melanie, Chad (Megan), Courtney and Jackie. Joe also leaves many nieces, nephews and any number of friends and acquaintances here and in Horta. Joe is truly missed by all, but we're all better people for having had him in our lives.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday June 15, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1791 Marshall Rd, Vacaville, CA 95687. A private burial with military honors will take place at Vaca-Elmira Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Bryan Braker Funeral Home.
