Margaret Chan Lum

Margaret Chan Lum was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Sacramento and passed away on March 5, at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ton G. Lum. She is survived by sons, Paul (Shawn) Lum of Vacaville and Thomas (Connie) Lum of Annandale, VA; grandchildren, Neil, Russell, Lauren and Evan; three brothers, Paul, Bill and Ben Dong; sister, Marian Frisby of Sacramento.
Preceded in death by her brother, Sim Dong and sister, Clara Chinn.
Born in a humble neighborhood close to the California State Capitol, she attended Sacramento schools and Sacramento City College before transferring to Stanford Nursing School in San Francisco. After graduating, she was accepted into a masters program at UCLA, but chose not to attend. She traveled to Europe, married, worked as a school nurse, earned a masters degree from Sacramento State University, supported her husband's farming business, and raised her children in Dixon. In 1979, she graduated from McGeorge School of Law. She was a practicing family attorney for nearly three decades. She had varied cultural interests, maintained many friendships among her community, church, and profession, and was a source of encouragement to many members of her extended family.
A funeral service will be held on March 15, at 10 a.m., at Dixon Community Church, 955 East A St., Dixon. Burial will follow at Silveyville Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.
