Ruby Jane Castro

June 3, 1931 - Sept. 23, 2017 Ruby Jane Castro, born June 3, 1931 passed away on Sept. 23. Born and raised in the Napa Valley until her family moved to Vacaville in the late 40's. Vacaville is where she met the love of her life Peter Castro Jr.; they were married in Oct. 1950 and raised three children, Christopher Michael Castro, Linda Ann Blickenderfer, and Lorena Ascencion Castro. Ruby was very close to her family, especially her nieces, Kelly Fletcher, Valerie Williams, Patricia Connelly, Kathleen Villalpando, Annette Drummond, Melecia Ramos, Juanita Garcia, Renee Fowler and Lorraine Yount. Mom had three very close friends in Joyce Gonzales, Trudy Armitage and Mary Joe Steinke. Ruby worked for the Vacaville Unified School District for 22 years as manager of the Vacaville High School cafeteria. She loved going to the ocean, animals, and playing dominoes with friends and family late into the night. Ruby also belonged to the Solano County Land Alliance. She will always be remembered for her strength, humor and devotion to her community, friends and family. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; son, Christopher; mother, Bertha; sister, Loretta "Babe", and niece Birdie. She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Lorena; granddaughter, Tillia Jane Castro Arnold. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, at McCune Garden Chapel, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a reception at the Parish Hall.
