Steven Dyer Obituary

On Saturday, February 11, 2023, Steven Wayne Dyer, loving husband, brother and father of two daughters, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away at his home at the age of 76. Steven was born on November 5, 1946, in Galesburg, Illinois to Florence Marie (Bybee) and Fred P. McCulloch; he was their only child. Marie later married Thomas (Jack) John Dyer III. Jack adopted Steve and he was known since as Steven Wayne Dyer. Jack was a pilot in the Air Force, and Marie was a supportive and doting military wife, so moving frequently from air base to air base was expected. Steve enjoyed a great many hobbies and opportunities that came with new communities and eventually came to graduate from High School in Mountain Home, Idaho. His love of the outdoors, fishing, swimming, hunting and camping came from that special time there. Steve was a talented amateur athlete, including baseball and track events. The desire to join the military called to him after High School and Steve went on to join the Army and become a paratrooper. Another passion of Steve's was anything with wheels and a motor – he loved working on and restoring current model and classic cars and trucks. Steve was a prolific Roy Orbison and Elvis fan and also enjoyed John Wayne movies. He had a love for bowling and met his one and only true love while bowling in Fairfield in 1967. Steven Wayne and Mary Louise (McMillon) married on February 3, 1968, in Fairfield and began their amazing journey together as husband and wife. Steve and Mary had 2 daughters, Radene and Stephanie. They would remain married for 52 years until the passing of his beloved Mary in 2020. Steve loved his family with all of his heart and is preceded in death by his father, Thomas (Jack) John Dyer III, his mother, Florence Marie Dyer, his wife Mary Louise Dyer. He is survived by his brother, Thomas John Dyer IV; daughters, Radene (Dyer) Cross and Stephanie Dyer; his grandsons, Joseph and Blake; his granddaughters, Courtney, Abigail, Claire and Ella Jeane and great-granddaughter Brooklyn. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home from 9 AM to 10 AM and his funeral service will follow at 10 AM. Steve will be laid to rest at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland, where a graveside service will begin at 1:30 PM. The family very much appreciates your prayers and asks any gifts in Steve's memory be made to: Dunnigan Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 213, Dunnigan, CA 95937.
