Frank Kuserk Obituary

Frank T. Kuserk, 66 of Bethlehem, PA, formerly of Harleysville, PA passed away on Friday October 20, 2017. He was the loving husband of Evelyn (Hundley) Kuserk, with whom he had celebrated 42 years of loving marriage this past January. Frank was born on March 26, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, to Frank J. and Jane (Homka) Kuserk. He graduated from West Deptford High School in 1969, from his beloved Notre Dame University in 1973, and earned a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware in 1977. Frank always told everyone that if you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life. Frank lived out this motto as a professor of biological sciences, ecology, and environmental science at Moravian College, where he taught for 40 years and was designated the Louise E. Julley Professor of Biological Sciences. He dedicated his life to teaching others the beauty of the natural world, even when what he found was beautiful was turtles, mice, and fish. He was an active member of the Wildlands Conservancy, the Monocacy Creek Watershed Association, and the Ecological Society of America. Ever the devoted father, Frank coached his daughters' soccer teams for well over a decade with the Towamencin Youth Association, and served as president of the North Penn Music Aides, the parent fundraising group for his daughters' high school band program. He was also a proud Eagle Scout and a former member of the North Penn Area Democratic Committee. Survivors: In addition to his wife and father, Frank is survived by his daughters Claire Sipe of Skippack, PA, and Laura Stone (Chris) of Newtown Square, PA; his grandchildren, Gavin Arsenich and Audrey Sipe and soon-to-be granddaughter, Logan Stone; his brothers Gregory (Linda) of Durwood, MD, and Robert (Mary Anne) of Mt. Laurel, NJ; and his step-brother Michael Clancy (Grace) of Dresher, PA, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members. Services: A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 12 Noon until time of service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wildlands Conservancy, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, PA 18049-1637. www.wildlandspa.org/donate/

Dr. Kuserk was the best professor I had at Moravian College. Not only was he kind and intelligent, but he was also able to connect with students and bring out the best in them. When I think of my college experience, he stands out as a bright star. I would not be where I am today without him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Frank was a good guy...and a great professor who really cared about his students and Moravian College.

Frank's generosity reached far beyond his family and his college. He brought his students to Fry's Run Watershed Assn. to assist with water testing of this tributary to the Delaware River. He provided nets and other equipment so that the students and the FRWA members could assess the microscopic life in the stream. This is only one example of his kindness. He always did it immediately and happily.

A valued colleague who was and will continue to be an enthusiastic mentor to peers, students, and the public for the very best reasons using his very best abilities. A unique life worth celebrating and one never to forget. My world is less knowing he is no longer physically at his beloved Moravian College, but his presence is not necessary to share his riches and enrich my days as long as I live. I add my condolences and best wishes during this difficult time to his family, friends, and all those who cared about Frank. Respectfully, Daniel Klem, Jr.
