Jay Moyer Obituary

Jay R. Moyer, age 70, of Harleysville, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Grand View Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Suzette, with whom he shared over 43 years of marriage. Born in Sellersville on April 20, 1947, he was a son of Eileen Enright Moyer and the late Jay Wesley Moyer. After graduating Souderton Area High School, Jay enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. After serving in the United States Air Force, Jay attended Syracuse University, where he earned his BA in Political Science and later, did his Post Graduate Studies at Temple University. Jay served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Investment Board: Treasurer of Montgomery County: Area Operations Director of PA Dept. of Revenue, Bureau of Collections and Tax Payer Services; Deputy Secretary for Local Government Affairs, PA Dept. of Environmental Protection; Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission; Regional Representative to Deputy Secretary, US Dept. of Education, Region III; State Representative, PA House of Representatives 70th Legislative District; and Small Business Ombudsman, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He was very committed to his community, serving on the Lower Salford Community Board of Supervisors, Montgomery County Park Board, former Souderton Area School Board Director, member and past president of the Harleysville Jaycees and Harleysville Lions Club, founder and Chairman of the Lower Salford Youth Association, former member of the Board of Directors of the Harleysville Senior Adult Activities Center and Community Center. Jay was a lifelong resident of Lower Salford Township. He enjoyed antiquing, collecting rare books, watches and pottery. He spent many Saturdays attending auctions and looking for “treasures”. Jay loved walking 2 miles everyday in his community and the surrounding communities. He recently took up playing golf, and spent time in his back yard pool swimming with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Suzette, he is survived by his daughter Christine Suzanne Schmidt and her husband Michael; grandchildren Abra Jane and Elliott James Schmidt; siblings Philip Moyer, Mary Bencker, Anne Cinque, Michael Moyer and Mark Moyer. He was preceded in death by his grandson Gabriel Joseph Schmidt and his sister Evonne Tanner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksville, PA., where the family will share words of remembrance at 10:45 AM. Suzette, our deepest condolences to you and your family. Jay's commitment to those around him is inspiring, and our community is better because of his devotion to it. We regret that we were out of town during his memorial service but we had you in our thoughts then as we do now, and will continue to pray for you. Our loss is Heaven's gain... Jay is likely already offering his support in any way he can to help the spirits of those around him better.

Suzette, I was so sad to hear of Jay's passing. Although we kept in touch from time to time, we did not get a chance to meet up very often. We had both moved on in the political world. I had heard a little while ago that he was ill, so I sent an e-mail, but got no response. I will tell you that during my time as County Chairman, I would have trouble naming someone who was as loyal as he, and who went out of their way to be of help to me. We have all lost a good man. My condolences to you and the family.

Thanks Jay for being such a strong leader in our community and serving people. Thanks also for sharing Suzette and Christine with us. They, along with you, have made the Harleysville community a great place to live. Condolences to Suzette and Christine and family.

Dear suzette and christine, the past few days I have been thinking about all the time we have shared as friends, Jay was fun, kind, curious and kind. I don't think I can remember Jay as having said anything negative even in his political opponets. He thru all his work for our community is a big reason harleysville is such a wonderful place to live. He inspired me to become politically active because thru his work you could see the immediate impact. Our wonderful parks and pathes are due in a big way because of Jay. It was a pleasure to count him and your family as our friends. I know that your strong faith will help carry you thru this journey and I hope if there is anything we can do that you would call us. I will continue to treasure our past memories and hope for new ones to begin. With much affection, the Steiner family
