Judith Hodder Obituary

HOPE, ME - Judith Allison Hodder, loving wife and mother, daughter and sister, passed away with her devoted family by her side on December 7, 2023 at the age of 65. Born on June 19, 1958 in Sellersville, Pennsylvania (in the car while stopped at a red light on the way to the hospital) to W. Richard and Patricia (Thompson) Gum, Allison lived every day with a passion for adventure and a deep connection with the outdoors and nature. After graduating from the University of Miami, she was never far from the sea. It was through sailing that Allison met her soulmate, Mark Hodder, with whom she shared life's odyssey for almost 42 years. After restoring the classic wooden yacht, Baccarat, Mark and Allison took on charters out of Anguilla in the West Indies. Upon their return to the states, an employment opportunity brought them with their first son to the island of North Haven, Maine. Well-suited to island life, it is there that they chose to drop anchor and raise their family. As a longtime resident of North Haven, Allison was a valued member of her tight-knit island community. She was known and loved for her devotion to family and friends, her care-free spirit, kind heart, generosity, green thumb, and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. She is survived by her beloved husband, Mark, their children, James, Emmett and partner, Elizabeth Gorse, Ashley and husband, Jonny Lincoln, her mother, Patricia A. Gum, siblings C. Suzanne Cap and husband, Demetrius, Cynthia L. Oliver, W. Andrew Gum, sister-in-law Jane Phillips and husband, Christopher, and her loving nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her father, W. Richard Gum, grandparents William and Olive Gum, and Karl "Bolly" and Alberta Thompson. Celebrations of Allison's life will be private. Donations in memory of Allison will be most gratefully accepted by one of her favorite charities, Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, 3121 Hotel Road, Auburn, ME 04210-8398 or online at www.giving.gsfb.org.

My heart is with your family. Allison's deep love for her family was to be admired. Her laugh and smile was contageous and could surely light up a room. I am grateful for the times I got to spend with her .
